Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant in Indiana
Any Certified Nursing Assistant class in Indiana will prepare students with the skills, knowledge and responsibilities required to work as nursing aides in the state. CNAs, also commonly known as nursing aides and orderlies, provide basic care for patients, under the supervision of registered nurses, in a number of settings which include hospitals, assisted living facilities and home healthcare agencies. Any approved CNA course will teach students an overview of the nursing assistant system, with considerable importance attached to legal and ethical matters. The common tasks that a student will learn, however, include the basics in nursing assistance; that is, infection control, feeding, grooming and clothing patients, personal hygiene, use of equipment and taking vital signs. Students come out of CNA training programs with knowledge and skills in a wide range of areas, and they then just have to sit and pass the competency evaluation exam assigned by the Indiana State Department of Health in order to become a fully qualified CNA.
